So I suppose I should start by saying that I love these people. They are so enamored with their little one, and it warms my heart to think about the love into which their newest little will be entering in just a few short weeks. There were several times during this session that their little cutie seemed to steal the show, which was just fine with all of us. We explored stairs and doors and even a playground, watching each object delight him.
It was freezing outside, so we snuggled into blankets and let the sunshine embrace us. In many ways, it may have been nice to wait for warmer weather, but finding the balance between spending time together and fielding work and obligations is difficult on the best of days. Besides, this "family date night" was written in the books for weeks. So, we went with it, cold weather and all. That sunshine, though, may have been worth all of the cold fingers and noses. The light was warm, hazy, and inviting.
It's worth mentioning, as well, that the phrase "family date night" was not something for which I can take credit. As we were walking, this momma made mention of this night as being a time for the family to get out together. As she talked about their "date night," I knew we were going to have an amazing time. There was a bit of a mentality hidden in that phrase. Rather than feeling pressured to carve out the time and spending that time worrying about other obligations, "family date night" seemed to imply a feeling of presence in the moment. In many ways, being present, just being, can bring balance to us and our lives.
